What Marc Guehi wants Crystal Palace to do could be good news for Newcastle

Marc Guehi remains top of Newcastle United's transfer wishlist.

Newcastle United failed to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the summer.

The Magpies identified the England international as a top transfer target, but despite making the Eagles three offers, came up short in their efforts to sign him.

Newcastle’s highest offer for the 24-year-old was in excess of £65 million but that figure still fell short of Steve Parish’s £75 million valuation. Consequently, Guehi stayed at Selhurst Park and is now, as the side’s captain, focusing on performing to the best of his ability.

Marc Guehi next Crystal Palace contract to include clause

However, even though the defender wants his football to do the talking, according to a recent report from Football Insider, Palace are keen to open contract talks.

Newcastle failed to sign Marc Guehi this summer despite making three bids.

Guehi has two years left on his current contract, and even though he is open to discussing new terms, wants a release clause included in any future deal.

Although Palace are likely to include a clause of at least £75 million, the fact the player wants one in place could be good news for Newcastle ahead of them revisiting the possibility of signing the defender in future windows.

The Geordies’ failed pursuit meant they experienced a disappointing summer with William Osula, Lloyd Kelly and goalkeeping duo Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy their only signings.
