James Garner has been linked with a return to Manchester United in recent months.
The 25-year-old has been excellent for Everton since joining the club, and he has established himself as a reliable performer in the Premier League. Manchester United could use someone like him in the middle of the park, and former star Nicky Butt has urged the club to bring him back.
Any deal will be quite difficult, given that the player recently signed a long-term deal with Everton.

“I don’t see why he couldn’t be back at United,” Butt said (h/t TEAMtalk). “He’s performing well, he’s playing for a big club with a big expectation with their crowd.
“Obviously, they’re not expected to go and win the Premier League, but they’re expected to win, and they’ve got passionate support.
“So he plays under pressure every week, he knows Man United, and yeah, he’s doing amazingly well now.
“He’s got to do it again next season, it’s a bit soon to go and pay big money for him now, but I’m confident he can go and do it.”
Garner would be a superb option
Garner can operate as a central midfielder as well as in defence. He is a versatile player, and he could be the ideal utility man for Manchester United. They will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and need a deeper, higher-quality squad. They need players who can slot into multiple roles and perform at a high level.
It remains to be seen whether Everton is prepared to sanction his departure. Garner is an indispensable asset for them, and his departure would be a huge blow. However, the opportunity to return to his former club could be exciting for the 25-year-old. He might feel that he has unfinished business at Old Trafford. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.

He literally signed a new Everton contract 6 weeks ago & is under contract to summer 2030. That’s why! LMAO. Honestly the arrogance of these ex-Utd players is unreal. Garner loves it at Everton. He has no interest in going back to a club that rejected him. He’s made his England debut through playing for Everton & will hopefully be playing in Europe with Everton next season. Everton have ambitions of their own to build a side to challenge!
Players who have an eye on moving clubs don’t sign new 4 & 1/2 year contracts. They sit out the existing deals. That literally tells you Garner has no desire to return to Utd & doesn’t think he has any ‘unfinished business’. The world doesn’t revolve around Utd.
