Ex-Middlesbrough and England coach wants Blackburn role
by stresster on June 8th, 2008Will Steve McClaren be making a return to Premier League management? He’s well and truly thrown his hat into the ring as far as the vacant Blackburn manager’s role is concerned, with Mark Hughes having recently jumped ship to Manchester City.
The BBC report that the man chiefly responsible for England’s failure to make Euro 2008 could well be on the Blackburn shortlist, although will Rovers take a chance on the man that fared reasonably well with Middlesbrough, but flopped badly with the national team?
“Of course that would interest me,” McClaren told BBC Radio 5 Live when asked about the vacancy at Ewood Park.
“Unfortunately what happened with England was a huge failure but I want to get back into management.”
McClaren was recently linked with FC Twente, a Dutch club who have qualified for the Champions League. It’s questionable whether the powers-that-be at Ewood Park are prepared to take a punt on this guy, especially as it could be a tough season after the departure of Hughes and potentially the likes of Santa Cruz and Bentley also leaving.

So what if he wants it? Who is he?
He’s not a manager, he’s a coach who’s got ideas above his station.
He would send us down as he’d struggle to get the respect of the players, the fans and the nation.
He’s a disaster.

O dear even i wouldn’t wish him on Blackburn they would need to pitch him a tent by the dug out in case a few spots of rain enter the atmosphere.

Nope!
We, the fans don’t want Mac, or Sam..No offence but we keep seeing Mac’s brolly, and there is that failure with the England squad..It rains a lot in Lancashire and well. that brolly lmaoooooo.
Sam did a good job at Bolton but his last results are what goes against him at Newcastle.
…Shearer for our manager by unanimous, very unamimus poll..and an experienced numberr two to guide him to success. Who for number two?
Mike Newall, Kenny Dalglish, etc, even faithful parks as number two.

I am so angry about this rumour I am not even a Blackburn fan but I am a fan of football, If you want a good reason not to appoint mcclaren, its all around us at the moment,
Euro 2008 and no England,
Why?
Because of this one man, we had the point we needed against Croatia,
(not that we should ever have been in a position to be looking for a point)
he was advised to make a tactical change to hold on for the draw by his number 2 but no he wanted a win so he disregarded the advise of one of the most experienced men in English football management as he had done many times before and went for the win, the rest is history.
He cost England, he will cost Blackburn although I hope for the sake of Blackburn supporters he is not for one minute being seriously considered for the job or a job in management at any other club.
He has been unemployed managerial wise since being sacked from the England job and unless any club is feeling suicidal and want to head in a downward direction that man should remain out of football management

Thanks Rick,
If it was our decsion it would be a defo *no* big style some plonkers being banded about for our new manager but for us because MH did such a good job then we *must take care on the next manager appointment. We want our new manager to live and breathe Blackburn Rovers and big Al fits that bill beautifully as does Kenny Dalglish he also won and broke our hearts. They do that you know Rick, break our hearts by leaving us.
Last week Allardyce and Mac was top pf the bill but now its Shearer without a doubt we are shouting for.Mr Williams is just a bit wary that Al S has’nt managed before but he has got all his badges and at the end of the day MH also had’nt managed a club, only Wales. We are under no illusions that one day AL will manage Newcastle. People do seem to use us as stepping stones to greater things us being a small fish in a huge pond (the big six} Santa Crurz is thinking of ’stepping out’ now he got to England…arge…thanks to the bigger teams. Still, now MH is at MC and he picked out all our gems they’ll (bigger teams) will start theiving off them..lmaoooooo
Thanks everyone maybe this week the board will meet and decide.

I agree with ricky although have to disagree in part with you - by his number 2 I hope you aren’t referring to Terry venables as “one of the most respected people in football” as I find him almost as much of a joke as Mclaren and moreover with him “supporting” MClaren, almost as guilty of incompetence.
That said I am also not a Blackburn fan but cannot help thinking this would be a major mistake (almost as much of a mistake as whoever takes the Chelsea job) although I also think sparky has made a mistake working for the crazy thai war criminal….
If I were Blackburn I would hesitate to bring anyone in as I have a feeling Sparky may be wanting to return in a few weeks.
