Arsenal new boy Nasri or Spurs star Modric: Which newbie will make the biggest impact in SIX WORDS!
by offsidetrap on July 11th, 2008As Mr Comfort always says: Long-winded people are boring, and writing full sentences is for chumps. Instead of writing us a novel, tell us why Samir Nasri or Luka Modric is the better talent, you have just SIX words to make your argument to the COS commentariat. Sound easy? Give it a go.
Arsenal and Tottenham have brought in two of the brightest talents in the world to help beef up their midfield ranks. With two new young guns coming into London at the same time, it got us thinking: who will have the biggest impact of the Premier League in their first season? Will it be the shifty Croat who makes Prem defenders look silly? Or will a young Frenchman take the headlines with his pace and power?
Who takes the cake as the new midfielder of the mountain? Be concise and let us know in SIX words!

would be funny to see arsenal be able to score 5 against us but it just wont happen. 5-1 haha!…modric easily the better player all euro tournament people have been saying he is class…if we didnt get him before euros we would have struggled to get him as all the top clubs in europe would have gone for him, as for nasri who went in for him only arsenal thats saying something. hleb hurry up and leave same with adebayor and once bentley joins we will overtake this year as we arnt being tipped to! love it!

bhfuy - July 11th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
nasri has scored 7 in 11 appearances for france meaning berore the euros 7 in 9
hardly the same can be said for modric
GiantYid - July 11th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Modric all day, Anal fans are getting scarred as the giant has woken and 5-1 thrashings will become a event of regularity for them after losing Hleb, Ade-boy-hore, Flamani….your sink is sinking & i hope you all drown with it or catch Aids, i don’t relly care!
narayan - July 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Two very different players - it looks like Nasri will be eased into the Arsenal first team like Eduardo was, whereas Modric will be thrown into the deep end. I don’t think Modric has the strength to be as effective in the PL as he was in Euro 2008. Also, since he signed for Spurs that tell us that mentally he isn’t that acute either.
John Thomas - July 11th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
It has to be Modric to make the biggest impact because the rest of the Spuds team are shit.
mjc - July 11th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
“your sink is sinking & i hope you all drown with it or catch Aids, i don’t relly care!”
Glad to see that Spurs fans are continuing to live up to their reputation as the most dislikeable in the league….

someone has to be
thebear - July 11th, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Modric is a good player but too small and weak fro the Premiership.
Nasri is just as skilled, younger, more tenacious and quicker.
Nasri is the next Zidane Modric is the next… er Nino Kranjkar.
jj - July 11th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Nasri has not shown me anything as a player yet, not a regular for France, his sub appearance’s were few and in that time he showed me nothing special! Wenger obviously see’s something in him, where as Modric has shown at the euros what he is capable of and seems a very very good player! So at the moment based on that modric is the better.
spurs_444 - July 11th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
They are different types of players.
Gooner08Legend - July 11th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Ha Ha you Yid scum are such twats. I think Wenger’s history in the transfer market pisses over anything you have done in the last 10 years. Think of Henry, Vieira, Sagna, Clichy, Fabregas, Petit, Pires, Toure, Silva, Ljunberg, Lauren, Anelka the list is endless so I’m extremely confident with Nasri.
If Modric is so good why would he join a loads of cunts who didnt even finish in the top half of the table?
Ha Ha Ha you can only dream of our success.
Ask yourself, what Totteringham player would get close to the Arsenal 1st team?
answer = NONE
Now fuck off back to that shitty old stadium. “Next year” again eh lads….
Anonymous - July 11th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
gooner im a man u fan and ill give you some names gomes hutton king bale berbatov modric dos santos keane and bentley if they get him big mistake letting him go i think oh and maybe lennon when hleb leaves
`ivor Eisenstadt - July 11th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Clearly Modric as he will be the Spurs lynchpin whilst Nasri will be a bit part player at Arsenal.
Anonymous - July 11th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
“hleb hurry up and leave same with adebayor and once bentley joins we will overtake this year as we arnt being tipped to! love it!”
You know selling those 2 players would give enough to buy like half your squad?
You think the Arsenal reject Bentley is going to take Spurs over Arsenal? Dream on.
Both Nasri and Modric are good, anyone who says otherwise is just being a childish retard Arsenal or Spurs supporter.
herbert - July 11th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
Man U fan… Dos Santos isn’t as good as Vela, Gomes you can have, Hutton better than Sagna? fuck off. King better than Gallas or Toure? Fuck off. Bale better than Clichy? Fuck Off. Berbatov better than RVP… debateable. Modric better than Cesc? Hahaha hilarious.Keane better than Eduardo ro Adebayor? Fuck Off. Bentley? that loud mouthed cunt can cross and shit on his clu… that’s about it… better than Rosicky? Fuck Off.
Lennon…. haha…. poor mans Theo Walcott with less end product
Gooner08Legend - July 11th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Annon
Hutton, Bale, King - are you having a laugh! vs Sagna Clichy and Toure!
Modric hasnt even played a game in the prem and neither is dos santos who has sat on the bench all his career. Lennon has gone backwards for the last 2 years and bentley hasnt even signed for totteringham so what on earth are you talking about????
Berbatov is the only decent player and i still wouldnt swap him for van persie or adabayor. And berba wont be at totteringham next season anyway.
Samir Nasri - July 11th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
definitely modric, i was so bad wenger only bought me because im young, h french and i do whatever he begs of me
AT - July 11th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Modric is over rated. He is too over hyped. He is good but he is not that good. Dos Santos has great skill but has been a bench warmer for too long. Expect him to impact white hart lane in the coming years and by then he will be snapped up by a much better team.
goonerjay - July 11th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
Nasri and Modric are 2 totally different players.
Modric is a slow paced playmaker/passer with a very lightweight frame and is going to have a hard time in the centre of the pitch in the EPL.
Nasri has bags of skill, pace and strength and is used to playing in a fast and physical league.
Also this comparison about the Euros is crap. How many players were good in the Euros and flopped in the Prem? Man U fans will remember paborsky. Plus Modric was a starter in a Croat team who’s second best player is Krancjar who is utter sh*te. Nasri on the other hand is fighting Franc Ribery (one of the best Attacking midfielders in the world) for a place in the France squad… is Modric better than Ribery, NO WAY.
Simmeister - July 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
All yuu Spurs scum!…
I think you’ll find that Real Madrid and others were looking at Nasri too and anyway if Modric was that good he wouldn’t have joined you because Wenger would have bought him…IF HE WAS GOOD ENOUGH…But obviously he isn’t!!
indeed - July 11th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Spurs are going to win the premiership and the champions league no doubt! Modric is by far the best player on Earth - he’s always been a tottenham fan and that’s why he chose us over the gazillion clubs that were after him. we got him on the cheap for the very same reason. top of the world WHOOOOO!
goonerjay - July 11th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Indeed…. don’t mention the Champions League in front of Spurs fans… someone will have to take the time to explain the em what it is.
ARSENE LIKES KIDS - July 11th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
Modric.
Paul - July 11th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
reality check to gooners: Fact is if the boy Nasri turns out to be a success, which he most likely will, he will be sold next summer anyway, so whether hes a success or not is pretty much irrelevant!
Realist - July 11th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Lets just wait and see! (5 words, now Fuck off the lot of ya)
Ubermensch - July 11th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
modric might be great if spurs can team him with someone tough as nails in the centre of the park…then he’ll be a great coup for them at 16mil(cheaper than barry) cuz he’ll run the team..but spurs will play him with jenas or sum stupid sod as the centre so he’ll be shite…nasri-cant see him doing much till the new year like eduardo…bit parts here and there till he learns the rope…provide cover for theo who i thnk we’ll see a lot of this year..so yea none of them to really light up the prem league this tym…waiting for some more transfers
indeed - July 11th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Paul, let’s not worry ourselves with Arsenal, mate. Tottenham will be in the champions by then and Berbo and Modric will not want to leave us for all the money in the world. because both are Tottenham fans and would die for the club. I can see Modric scoring goals by the thousands for us and making at least a million assists this season alone. WHOOOOOOOOO Arsenal is a selling club and we’re on the up COME OOOOON!
Canadian Gooner - July 11th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Modric? Isnt he the player who missed the net in the penalty shootout where Croatia was knocked out. Guess theres a player who cant take pressure!! I wont say Nasri is better but I trust the judgement of AW whose track record in choosing players rates much higher than spurs management
Anonymous - July 11th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
morth londen dream team for next season Gomes Hutton Toure King Bale DosSantos Modric Fabregas VanPersie Berbatov Keane no nasri gooners to still finish above spurs but in a couple of years spurs will be the better team
Anonymous - July 11th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
gooner you said close to your team and i believe they would as for vela better then dos santos are you drunk ask the legend Henry and modric could get in your team defo just remember who you really want to sign from zagreb but didnt have the money at the time a fit king would be the perfect partner for toure better then gallas keane and berbatov best pairing in prem hutton and bale most talented young uk fullback seen for a long time love to see then at man u missed out on bale as you did
fabregas04kb - July 11th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
wow, i go 4 a few minutes and spuds think they’re still better, welcome to the 21st century spurs. 1st trophy in 10 yrs compared to our dozens of silverware
arsenal still to win 5-0
get your heads out of ur arses spuds we are 6-0 up n still 80 mins left

fabregas04kb - July 11th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
well played herbert and anonymous
goonerjay - July 11th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Anon @6:38…. 1. Henry said they will both make it big but doesn’t really know Vela well where as he trained with Dos Santos every day. If you want a true gage then explain why Mexican sports channels have brought rights to Arsenal games next year to watch Vela and not Spurs games… Because a poll from mexicans showed Vela is more popular. Plus Dos Santos is also a bench warmer for his country and Vela is a first team starter.
Modric is nowhere near as good as Fabregas so how would he get in our 1st team?
Bale is no Clichy.
God you spuds are really some deluded people… and you all wonder why people take the mick… you’re so deluded the jokes worn off
Banksy - July 11th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
‘indeed’ ..can i have some of what your smoking !?
Anonymous - July 11th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
i believe Henry said dos santos can be the best player in the world if he wants to and moving to spurs will be a good move for him and he his the most talented kid he as seen for his age as for clichy fantastic player but bale could far exceed ask wenger and fergie who try to sign him as there long term left hand fullback freekicks to die for pace can go past players with skill and excellant crosser and could proberly get betreen 7-10 goals a season
herberts a cunt - July 11th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Name says it all really.
Brightonyid - July 11th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Yiddo9 - July 11th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
what a joke of an article, Modric is better hands down
Paolo - July 11th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Relative to their clubs, Modric should.
————————————————————————–
A lot of you seem to be completely missing the point, it’s about progress and strengthening. Last season Spurs lacked creativity in midfield and Modric (and Dos Santos) have been signed with that issue in mind, which is great to see. On top of this, as a new manager Ramos is also having to clear-out all the players he doesn’t rate.
Modric and Nasri are both talented players, but only time will tell if they both settle well…from what I’ve seen of Modric, I think he will be able to handle the Premier League as he handled England’s midfield very well in the Euro qualifiers to the point where he was singled out on Match of the Day.
In midfield Arsenal have been better than Spurs, but with Flamini away and Hleb going, Nasri is a direct Hleb replacement and Hleb was not a bad player, just maybe not right for the English game. I believe Modric will add more to Tottenham’s midfield and strengthen it comparitavely more than Nasri will to Arsenal’s (although I think this season Diaby will be massive for them).
Tottenham have also dealt with the Robinson issue as Gomes will be the number one, although from the bits I’ve seen of him, he’ll need to win me over despite his great record at PSV…the fact he’s not English and won’t have the press harranguing him for mistakes may be worth another 10 points though! On the subject of Goalkeepers, don’t some of the Arsenal fans think a new keeper and possibly a centre half should be a priority rather than replacing Hleb (RVP could play wide left)? Almunia is dodgy and I don’t see Fabianski getting the No. 1 shirt yet.
Spurs have seemingly strengthened more than Arsenal (so far in transfers) and as result I think Spurs will be a lot closer to the top of the table this year, especially with Ramos at the helm, but Arsenal on their day can be magic, time (and treatment tables) will tell.
Modric and Nasri are both exciting signings, but if we’re talking about the impacts their abilities as players could make on their new teams this coming season (which we all can’t wait for), then my money’s on Luka Modric.
Jackman - July 11th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Modric is class butmade the wrong choice goin 2 spurs , nasri all the way!!!!!!!
Gooner 4 ever - July 11th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
No doubt, although they play a different role Nasri is much, much better than Modric
GOONA - July 11th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
I’ve seen the videos of Nasri and all you spurs fans should be very very frightened indeed when he plays against ya. Modric isn’t in it when you compare the players, because if Wenger thought he was he’d be an Arsenal player by now that’s for sure. This boy looks as good as Ronaldo, just give him a little time and more goals will start coming from his talented feet. Another fine capture for le boss. Modric is good but Nasri is very very good!.
Derek - July 11th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Couldn’t agree more Paolo. Couldn’t agree more.
Brightonyid - July 11th, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Goona, your a twat, wenger was in for Modric but he did not want to go to you, when are you twats going to realize that your board are going to make problems for you, mortgaged up to the hilt, have to sell to buy, possible take over and oh how many players want to leave, all is not well for your club, and i for one cannot wait to see you all fail next season, i will dance all over your fucking graves.
spurfect one - July 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am
u arse scum make me laugh ‘ooh nasri has to be better because arsene bought him blah blah blah’ yeah the same guy who bought senderos jeffers 4 8m stepenovs luzne just to name a few. i admit wenger has got a lot correct with his signings but his not exactly the best in the world now is he. I also think he will never be able to compete with manure or the chavs they have just got better hence the reason your trophyless (3 years and counting) plus u will always be a feeder club for the real big clubs in europe.

Praz - July 12th, 2008 at 1:21 am
Both Modric and Nasri are very good players but it all depends on who has got the better team and Arsenal is miles ahead in that department. I have seen Nasri play more as we get the French league so I can tell you that he’s exceptional on his own. Modric needs good players around him to be what he is (Who’s there in Spurs?). I just hope he doesn’t get frustrated and confused and keep passing the ball to Eduardo in the derby.
Rabbi Kim - July 12th, 2008 at 3:55 am
Nasri excelled in ligue 1 a competitive league. modric played in croatia for dinamo zagreb where midfielders are shit.
GOONA - July 12th, 2008 at 6:47 am
BRIGHTONYID you’re not very bright if you believe that Modric chose spurs over Arsenal.Any footballer worth his salt would want to sign for a far superior team doing well in the league and in the top elite of europe at that, who his best friend has joined, so it’s quite obvious that our boss thought he was good but lightweight and he still does, so that’s the reason why he made no attempt whatsoever to sign the lad. To sum up the two players Modric is class but Nasri is a CLASS above along with Arsenal.
veritas - July 12th, 2008 at 8:28 am
small players cant be successful. get your headout of your arse numpty’s. Of course smallies work here! The ref’s dont allow hard tackling anymore here. Witness Ronaldo never getting chopped.
As for small players…. paul scholes. nuff said.
