Bittersweet victory for Sheffield Wednesday – Laws fearing the worst

Imagine if a striker scored a goal every ten minutes for their club this season. In the Championship, nine goals a game over 46 matches would mean a grand total of 414 for the season, which would probably be enough to land the Golden Boot.

This is the current goals-to-game ratio that Akpo Sodje can boast about, having notched a quickfire brace against Burnley on Saturday. However, we’ll never know whether the striker would have continued his marvellous ratio, with the official Wednesday website reporting that Brian Laws is a worried man after seeing his star forward stretchered off in the 22nd minute.

“One of the most important things is to discover how long he’s going to be out for. We saw on Saturday what kind of difference Sodje makes to the team.

“Any length of time will be detrimental to the team so we need to find out as quickly as possible so we can adjust.

“I’m not looking forward to finding out the news because I don’t believe it will be good news no matter which surgeon he goes to see.”

It is feared that the former Port Vale striker will be missing for up to a month, and Wednesday fans will be wondering whether the likes of Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay can make up for the player’s absence. Do you think there’s enough quality in the team to cope with Sodje’s absence, or will the goals dry up throughout August and September as a result?
