Arsenal can give Liverpool and Spurs a lesson in creating chances but not finishing them!
by Billy Boots on August 17th, 2008Whilst Arsenal were undoubtedly profligate in front of goal against a battling West Bromwich side at least they were creating chances by the bucket load, whereas Liverpool and Spurs both looked toothless up front!
Let me start by saying that Fernando Torres is a incredibly gifted player and as a balanced Arsenal fan I can happily admit that but what is clear is that Liverpool still need some creativity to support their front men. Keane looked out of sorts yesterday and the partnership with the Spaniard will need some working on. Arsenal however once again carved out chance after chance but just couldn’t seem to get that second goal that could have sparked an avalanche.
Darren Bent tried his best up front on his own at the Riverside but clearly it didn’t work and even when Berbatov came on they created very little and no doubt Spurs fans will be hoping that either Arshavin or an out and out striker are signed when the Bulgarian does as expected leave White Hart Lane.
Samir Nasri impressed greatly and he looks like an Arsenal favourite already. If Adebayor hadn’t been so greedy in front of goal then who knows maybe we could have put the Baggies to the sword, but full credit to them they really did give it their all and in Ishmael Miller they have a centre forward who will cause all kinds of problems this season and I really don’t see them getting relegated if they continue to play like they did yesterday.
Of course Liverpool will be there or thereabouts come May but their fans must surely be hoping they bring in another attacking option, either on the wing or up front, otherwise it may just be third or fourth again this term. I am sure that Tottenham will obviously improve and that this result was more a one off than anything to get too worried about, but clearly it will take a while for their new signings to gel but maybe playing Bent up front on his own simply won’t work.
What do Liverpool and Spurs fans think about their first games of the season? Do Arsenal fans think that Bendtner should be dropped?

Fair assessment from an Arsenal fan, which is rare! Torres did save us again and we need to solve this problem soon. I think Keane and Torres can work as a pair but need more support from out wide, Yossi was okay but Kuyt was poor!

i think judging players on one game is plain just stupid the season hasnt warmed up yet players are not sharp or match fit.one game not 38 games so leave the judging to later.

Liverpool were missing Babel, Mascherano and Lucas don’t forget…..and Babel is at least one more threat on the wing…..Benayoun was really good yesterday, but the guy who impressed me alot surprisingly was young El Zhar who was basically playing on the right wing, he showed plenty of speed and skill out there and even showed passion for the shirt by sacrificing himself via kicking the ball and getting a yellow card. He seemed keen and very much into it. Ngog also would be an prospect same with Nemeth who is fantastic….Liverpool have a fair few options coming up and when we rap up Barry….we’ll be ready when the fight comes…

What’s the poor performances from the big spending team; Liverpool and even Spurs. Is these the team will beat Arsenal off? What’s a howler? Forget to beat us…

Get some decent wingers - Kuyt is NOT a winger , no pace, no skill, poor crosser.

0500Silva 08.17.08 at 11:13 am:…….”Liverpool were missing Babel, Mascherano and Lucas don’t forget…..and Babel is at least one more threat on the wing” …We all know these players are away, but later in the season if let’s say all these players were to be injured, I would like to think we had players who could come in for them and do the same job. That the difference between Chelski,Man utd Aresnal and us, They have.

I actually the Keane Torres partnership could be incredible. The Spurs result was a one off I think, Boro is actually quite a hard place to go to, especially on the first day of the season. They took 4 points off us last season.
