Can Everton do a Liverpool and beat Standard Liege? Tough old draw for Toffees
by stresster on August 29th, 2008It’s not the draw you imagine David Moyes would have wanted. His Everton team had a reasonable European adventure last season, cruelly ending on penalties against Fiorentina, yet they have some hard work ahead of them if the Toffees are to make the UEFA Cup group stage for the second season running.
Blues fans will have witnessed the almighty struggle that Liverpool experienced against Standard Liege in the Champions League, and Setanta report that Everton now face the Belgian champions over two legs. While there’s no denying the Reds weren’t firing on all cylinders in the two matches played (especially the first game), Les Rouches caused them untold problems and may have produced a shock if they had scored from the penalty spot in Belgium.
Everton fans, are you confident that the team can progress to the group stages, especially with David Moyes bringing in some new faces before the transfer window shuts? The Scot will want to improve on last season’s last-sixteen showing in this competition, although Liege will fancy their chances of winning, considering they’ve already pushed a Merseyside team to the wire.

We can do some damage against Liege - their performance was also an indication of how crap Liverpool were, and how lucky!
If we can get wide rather than through the centre were they have a strong midfield and put their keeper under pressure we should create plenty. It would also help if we bought Fellaini, their centre midfield who looks a great player !

Good luck, Standard Liege. They are a good side and deserves to be in a European cup competition. Go on and knock the bitters out!

Ah, so that what the Liege fans meant when they said they would win on Merseyside to progress in Europe.
Bye bye Everton.

Murderers? What a piece of work you are. Bet you carry a rolled up copy of the S*n in your pocket? For shame. This isn’t banter, you eejit, this is spiteful bitter stuff. Contrary to the idea of Evertonians being bitter, most of my mates are grand lads; you on the other hand are a waste of sperm and egg.

If Liege play as well as they did against Liverpool then they will be right smashing matches with Everton. Think Liege might be the stronger side though.

rushcored4 - its simply the truth lad. or did everyone make it up? oh yes, of course they did cos reds aren’t like that. in-fact they’ve never turned up to a game without tickets. never. and they don’t even pinch tickets off kids who’ve travelled miles and miles to watch their heroes in a cup final. you think you lot would be glad of the luck you get but no its actually funnier baiting a crxp team like everton who would give everything they have to be in your position.

every year, fans from other teams, like stretfords, shawn the sheep, write everton off and we always do well,so carry on chumps, its only a matter of time before our 4 seasons of hardwork pay off.
Dont get me wrong,i appreciate watching manure and arsenal in europe etc,but its the arrogant, disregarding fans who have an unworthy opionion on other teams, when they just dont know what they are talking about.Only genuine footie fans respond please.
