Should Newcastle Unite board appoint legend as manager? It might just stop a fan rebellion
by stresster on September 5th, 2008 364 words | 3 commentsWhile David Moyes and Didier Deschamps are names in the frame for the vacant Newcastle manager’s position, there is a clear favourite with fans, even if he doesn’t have any managerial experience. If he is persuaded to take the hotseat at St James’ Park, let’s hope his coaching skills are better than his punditry efforts!
Alan Shearer has already turned down the opportunity to return to Tyneside and take charge of the Magpies, but has he changed his mind just a few short months down the line? It’s clear that, despite being pretty cack, he enjoys guffawing on the BBC sofas while talking about football matches. Will the Geordie really want to move out of his comfort zone to steer a sinking ship? Setanta report that another Newcastle legend thinks this is the only way to avoid a mutiny in the north-east!
“Shearer is the only guy that could get Mike Ashley in favour again,” Micky Quinn told Setanta Sports News. “But he has got no experience you know?
“He would die for the club as Kevin Keegan would, he played for the club and he is a Geordie. He understands the club and would be my natural choice for Mike Ashley to get back in with the fans.
“This club is unique. The city lives and breathes around the football club. It is in the city centre, if Newcastle win on a Saturday then on Monday morning Geordies go to work with a smile on their faces.
“It is the heartbeat of Newcastle so it doesn’t surprise me how it has kicked off. Mike Ashley has got to do something very, very quickly to win them back over. He won’t be sitting in with the fans next time, and Dennis Wise, I can’t see him being within 20 miles of the ground!”
Hmm, would Shearer really die for the club when he’s not even prepared to manage them? To be fair, it would be a huge gamble taking charge of United, he might lose his legendary status if it turned out to be a horrible spell. Surely Dennis Wise isn’t an option anyway, although Mike Ashley has a big old dilemma on his hands right now, that’s for sure.

He’d never take it in the current climate, and who could blame him?
Shearer, like Keegan, is his own man and just like Keegan, he wouldn’t be able to put up with Dennis Wise dictating a huge part of what he would see as his responsibility.
We will struggle to find anyone of real quality to take the job now, because no leading or experienced manager will touch us with a bargepole if he knows he won’t have full control over his team.

wE ARE A GREAT TEAM BUT OUR behind the scenes we are a shambolic….
Shearer wouldnt go near us if he did he would be up for murdering wise d cockney bastard.
Not for 1 second would shearer let wise choose the signings etc….
Ashley needs to do the right thing sack wise and then try patch things up with king kev if that doesnt work bring shearer in and let him run everything to do with the 1st team.
Ashley dont sit us at next away games your security guards wont keep some people away .

I disagree. At this moment in time we need experience. If we could win the next 5 games in a row and especially the derby game all the fickle fans would be back on the band waggon. Dennis has proved himself in the lower leagues, he gets on great with Mr Ashley and I think he’s git lush.
