Liverpool legend set to make Blackburn debut against Arsenal?

The Gunners were woeful at Craven Cottage a few weeks ago, and supporters will be hoping for a vast improvement when their team travels to Blackburn on Saturday. It appears as though the defence might have to contend with a striker who has been a thorn in Arsenal’s side for over a decade, will he get a chance to terrorise them once again?

OK, so Robbie Fowler is coming towards the end of his career, but it appears as though Rovers have granted him a final hurrah in the Premier League. Quite whether this is sentimental tosh on behalf of manager Paul Ince remains to be seen, although The Guardian reports that the ex-Liverpool striker should be in the squad for the weekend match.

John Williams, the Blackburn chairman, was hopeful that a three-month deal would be signed by the end of the week. Williams said: “We have agreed in principle a three-month pay-as-you-play deal and we hope to have it tied up by the end of the week. If we go ahead on that basis and get it registered then if the manager wants him he would be able to be in the squad against Arsenal on Saturday.”

Rovers already have plenty of attacking options, with Jason Roberts, Roque Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy and Matt Derbyshire battling it out for places up front. Can Fowler provide the team with something different, perhaps Ince will wheel him out if the team win a penalty, especially after Roberts missed one at West Ham?
