Chelsea striker admits to having concentration span of a gnat

When you’re a footballer playing for one of the best clubs in the world, and getting paid very handsomely to do so, the least you can do is to stay alert while you’re on the field of play. However, it seems that such a thing is beyond this Blues forward, who has admitted that he can get distracted when the play is down the other end of the field. Surely this is not what the passionate fans like to hear, should the player really be so frank as to admit this?

The Times reports that Didier Drogba has been speaking to a Chelsea magazine. As usual, the Ivorian manages to come out with some choice comments, especially regarding his inability to concentrate on the game throughout the match. So next time you see the striker mis-control the ball, you know the reason why!

“Yes, it happens to me many times, it happens to every one of us,” Drogba said. “It’s funny because there are some times in the game where you don’t touch the ball for a while and then you realise that the crowd is there, or they’re not reacting, or you notice something specific going on and focus on it.

“After that you have to come back into the game quick because this is how you lose your attention and sometimes you can mis-control when the ball comes to you suddenly, or miss an opportunity.”

Can you imagine Fernando Torres coming out with the same sort of comment? Or Wayne Rooney? Obviously, Drogba is a class act who has been a consistently good performer for Chelsea since arriving from Marseille four seasons ago, although the supporters will surely be slightly puzzled by these latest comments.
