Tottenham ‘making an £11 million bid’ for England midfielder

David Bentley cost £15 million, while Spurs paid £16.6 million for the services of Luka Modric. However, this source reckons that Harry Redknapp is prepared to splash even more cash to bring this left-winger to White Hart Lane.

The Daily Mirror reports that Middlesbrough wide man Stewart Downing is going to be the subject of an £11 million bid from Tottenham, in an attempt to give the team some balance. David Bentley played on the left side of midfield in the last match against Blackburn, with Aaron Lennon restored to the right wing, yet it appears as though more reinforcements are needed at the North London club.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is making a £11million bid to take England left-winger Stewart Downing from Middlesbrough.

Redknapp wants the Boro skipper to bring balance to his Spurs side and the club are willing to pay a huge fee in the transfer window.

Downing has been linked with Spurs before but this latest bid could finally see him move to North London from Teesside.

How exactly does one make a bid these days? Isn’t it a simple case of a) finding out if he’s for sale and b) offering a large sum of money for his services? This isn’t the first time that Tottenham have been sniffing around Downing, who has remained at Middlesbrough for several seasons, despite regular speculation surrounding a move away from the north-east. Will this transfer finally happen in January?
