Brazilian midfielder Paulinho could be a long-term replacement for Frank Lampard at Chelsea after being linked with a move to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old Corinthians midfielder is reported to be a target of Chelsea and Inter Milan, who have watched the Brazilian international in action, and both clubs are expected to make a move to sign Paulinho.

Chelsea are looking for a replacement for Lampard, who will leave the club at the end of the season on a free transfer after not being offered a new deal, and were impressed with Paulinho when beaten by Corinthians in the final of the World Club Championship in December.

And Inter Milan are attempting to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window shuts with Paulinho’s fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho about to leave the San Siro to join Liverpool in an near £10million deal.

Neither Chelsea nor Inter Milan have officially made a bid to sign Paulinho, who had spell playing in Lithuania and Poland earlier in his career, but are expected to make an offer for the midfielder.

Corinthians director of sport Roberto de Andrade told Calcio Mercato: “At the moment, Inter have not made contact with us. I can assure you we have not received any offers from Italy, nor from Chelsea for our player.”
