Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is waiting to discover if he will be part of the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge next season or spend a second season on loan at West Brom.

The 19-year-old Belgian international joined Chelsea a year-and-a-half ago from Anderlecht in a deal which cost as much as £17million and has made 12 appearances for the club, the majority of which came as a substitute.

He was sent out on loan to West Brom for the season this year and has impressed with his displays at The Hawthorns, scoring 13 times in 31 appearances for The Baggies including two in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Sunderland.

Lukaku has been linked with spending a second year with West Brom to continue to develop into one of Europe’s best young striker, but as it stands is due to return to Chelsea at the end of the season to begin pre-season training with his parent club.

Lukaku plans to sit down with Chelsea’s management team over the coming months and the early part of the off-season to discover if he will be pulling on a blue shirt next year or the stripes of West Brom once again.

“I don’t know what Chelsea will decide,” Lukaku told Sportinglife. “We’ll have a chat about how to build up a good career for me there. There are a lot of clever people over there and they’re seeing that I am playing in a good way.

“Every 10 days I have a meeting with Chelsea. Sometimes they just come and talk with me and say what I have to improve, if I go back there I have to be like this or like that.

“There is a lot to improve on. I am only 19 so I can improve loads. They will see maybe I need one more year or maybe I don’t. I have a great understanding with them.”
