Check in to Arsenal vs Reading

Reading are hoping to tempt Gus Poyet away from Brighton with the promise of huge backing in the transfer window come the summer according to The Express.

The Royals are still looking for a new manager after parting ways with Brain McDermott last week.

A number of high profile names have been linked with the post in recent days but the club have so far been fruitless in their search for McDermott’s successor.

Roberto Di Matteo reportedly turned down the offer while senior players in the Reading dressing room reportedly but a stop to the appointment of bookies’ favourite Paolo Di Canio.

That has put Poyet in pole-position but the Uruguayan boss has reportedly expressed reservations over the taking charge. The former Chelsea and Tottenham star has insisted he would only take charge should the club view his appointment as a long-term project.

Reading owner Anton Zingarevich is keen to bring in Poyet and in an attempt to persuade Poyet of his faith in him, has insisted he will be given a huge summer transfer kitty regardless of whether the club remain in the Premier League.

Should Poyet agree the move, Reading would have to pay his current club Brighton compensation in the region of £1.5 million.
