Frank Lampard is keen to see Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho return to Stamford Bridge according to The Express.

The England midfielder has reportedly told friends he is desperate to see the ‘Special One’ return to Chelsea as he believes the arrival of the Portuguese boss would extend his own future at the club.

Chelsea have surprised many this season by allowing Lampard’s contract to run out. The player’s current deal is due to expire and reports in January suggested that Lampard’s agent has been told he will not be offered a new deal.

That is despite the fact that Lampard has scored more goals for Chelsea in the league than any other player and the Stamford Bridge faithful are desperate to see the club retain his services.

Mourinho and Lampard share a close relationship from the ‘Special One’’s previous spell in charge and it would come as a surprise were he to decline the option of retaining Lampard.

Lampard is hoping Mourinho would offer him a deal whereby he would gradually be moved into a coaching role in a manner similar to Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs at Manchester United.

Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge seems closer than ever with reports this week suggesting preliminary talks had been agreed over a potential move.
