Stamford Bridge side launch bid for Old Trafford forward.
Chelsea have launched a £30m bid for Man United striker Wayne Rooney as Blues owner Roman Abramovich looks to hijack Bayern Munich’s move for the England international according to the Daily Mirror.
Abramovich is confident he can persuade Rooney to stay in England and is keen to bring in the 27 year old to coincide with the planned appointment of Jose Mourinho as Chelsea boss.
Chelsea could well do with the addition of a star striker this summer given that Fernando Torres continues to fail to make an impact, the former Liverpool man reaching 15 Premier League games without a goal last night after drawing another blank against Tottenham.
The West London side are already in talks with the player’s representatives as well as with his Old Trafford employers, who may be ready to consider big money offers for a player who has made less of an impact this term than in previous Premier League title winning campaigns.
Rooney, used frequently in a deep-lying attacking role behind Robin Van Persie, has scored a rather average total of 12 goals in 27 Premier League matches but is Man United’s leading assist maker, proving he still has a lot to offer to any prospective parties keen on signing the former Everton man.
Rooney’s relationship with apparent incoming boss David Moyes may well be a key factor in whether the star remains at Old Trafford to see in his tenth season at the club.
