Chelsea are hoping to beat Real Madrid and Manchester City to the signing of the striker.
Chelsea look set to hold talks with Napoli in the next 24 hours over the possible transfer of Uruguay international Edinson Cavani according to the Daily Mirror.
The Blues have made Cavani their number one transfer target this summer, having lost out to Monaco in their pursuit of Falcao and Robert Lewandowski’s refusal to move to any other club apart from Bayern Munich.
Jose Mourinho is determined to add a top class striker to his squad this summer as he looks to win the Premier League title next season.
However, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is very reluctant to pay the £53 million transfer fee that Napoli are demanding and are hoping to persuade Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis to lower his asking price during talks this week.
Also, Chelsea are set to face strong competition for the Uruguayan from Manchester City and Real Madrid.
The player has already stated that a move to Madrid is his preferred choice, so Mourinho may have his work cut out persuading Cavani that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid look set to make a bid for Cavani but it is unknown whether they will hit Napoli’s asking price.
