New Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is ready to upset Tottenham by attempting to persuade Paulinho to spur the Premier League side in favour of a move to Spain according to The Times.

Tottenham have been closely linked with the Brazilian midfielder over the last few weeks and was widely expected to sign in the coming days.

An official announcement from the club was thought to be delayed only while Paulinho completes his international duty in the Confederations Cup with Brazil.

But it appears that delay could allow the Spanish side to pounce as they look to hijack the White Hart Lane club’s deal.

Ancelotti believes he has started this summer at a disadvantage after being appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor this week whilst other clubs have been able to spend the previous months planning out their signings.

He is therefore keen to waste little time and believes Paulinho could be the perfect addition to add some attacking verve to his team.

Ancelotti has already authorised a bid for the £20 million rated player but it remains to be seen whether that will affect any deal.

The player has previously stated that it would be a dream to play for Tottenham.
