Stamford Bridge side refuse to increase their current bid.

Chelsea have informed Napoli that they are unwilling to pay more than £40 million for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani according to The Daily Star.

The Blues have been strongly linked with the striker as new boss Jose Mourinho looks to put his stamp on the side at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has identified the attacking positions as somewhere which needs strengthening and believes Cavani to be the man who can fire them to glory.

Cavani had a highly impressive campaign last season, finishing top of the Italian goalscorers charts and firing Napoli to a second placed finish in Serie A.

That fee is thought to be around £53.3 million but it currently seems unlikely that any club is likely to match that price, with the player himself having admitted he felt that was too much.

Chelsea have reportedly told Napoli they will not be paying any more than £40 million, but that could pave the way for a player-exchange with the Italian side rumoured to be interested in including Ramires in any deal.
