Daniele De Rossi will move to Chelsea if Jose Mourinho continues to show interest in the Italian midfielder, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Italian international looks close to leaving current club AS Roma following a difficult season at the Italian club.

De Rossi fell out with the clubs previous manager and even lost his place in Roma’s starting eleven, sitting on the bench instead.

The midfielder is set to end his life long association with Roma if Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho comes calling.

The Portuguese coach has tried to sign De Rossi twice but on both occasions the Italian decided to stay with Roma, the club he has been with for all his career.

It could be third time lucky for Mourinho though with De Rossi interested in joining him at Stamford Bridge.

De Rossi was also close to joining Manchester City last season but a source close to the player has claimed that De Rossi is finally ready to make a move to the Premier League.

“If Mourinho calls, I’m sure De Rossi will say yes,” said the source.

“He did not want to go to Manchester City, but Chelsea are the club who could take him to England.

“If Chelsea are prepared to pay his wages, then it is a transfer that can  happen.”

De Rossi currently earns £5.5 million a year after tax and Chelsea would need to match those wages to bring the Italian to Stamford Bridge.
