St James’ Park side reveal they are closing in on high-profile capture whilst Villa Park forward confirms imminent departure.

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Newcastle United are closer to their first senior signing of the transfer window as Alan Pardew has once again hinted at big signings, whilst their prime target Darren Bent reveals he is definitely leaving Aston Villa this summer according to the Daily Star.

The 29 year-old was talking to Villa fans whilst signing their shirts through a car window, telling them : “Yeah, I’ll be out of here pretty soon. I’m sure.” But when questioned about whether his preference lies with Newcastle or Fulham, he simply replied : “”We’ll have to see.”

Whilst, Magpies boss Pardew told reporters that his newly appointed Director of Football Joe Kinnear has some meetings lined up this week [thought to be with QPR, Loic Remy and Lyon’s representatives]. He is also hopeful that there will be some new arrivals on Tyneside soon, as fans begin to become frustrated with the lack of transfer activity this summer.

It is widely reported that Newcastle are looking to bring two, maybe three, strikers to Tyneside this summer, with four potential targets on their minds – Loic Remy, Bafetimbi Gomis, Darren Bent and Andre-Pierre Gignac.

A bid for Gomis surfaced today, whilst the Daily Star also claimed Mike Ashley had given the green light on a move for Marseille’s goal machine, Gignac, who will set the side back around £12million.

News on from Tyneside has been pretty scare this month, with various media outlets almost ‘plucking at straws’ to make up stories to sell their papers. When in reality, Mike Ashley, Alan Pardew and Joe Kinnear are yet to seal a deal for any player, mainly due to Kinnear’s holiday.
