Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the club are interested in signing Porto striker Jackson Martinez this summer, according to Sky Sports.

De Laurentiis took to social networking site Twitter to respond to speculation linking the Serie A runners up with a number of players around Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti.

The outspoken owner said: “We are a friend of Paris Saint-Germain and Verratti is not for sale.

“The player’s agent is trying to put pressure on Paris Saint-Germain in order to gain a pay rise, but we do not go along with these games.

“We are searching for the right reinforcements in attack. It may be Martinez or it may be another. Our manager Rafael Benitez will decide.”

New boss Rafa Benitez has already had a busy start to his reign as coach at the San Paolo after already loosing star striker Edinson Cavani, who now looks set to be replaced by Real Madrid frontman Gonzalo Higuain as he nears a deal to join the ambitious Serie A club.

Another player that Napoli have been linked with is Internacional forward Leandro Damiao. However, the Brazilian club’s president, Giovanni Luigi, has denied that any offer has been made for their key player.

Speaking with Radio Gaucha, Luigi said: “Leandro Damiao is focused. There has been no contact in the last days.

“They talked about Napoli, but nothing official has come.”
