New Crystal Palace signing Marouane Chamakh admits that working with Ian Holloway played a big part in his decision to join the club from Arsenal.

According to London24, the Moroccan was persuaded by Holloway that a move to Selhurst Park would be the right one for him at this stage in his career, and that he is looking forward to the project developing at the newly-promoted Premier League side.

“I’m really happy to be here, to be signing for Crystal Palace,” he said. “To work with the manager, I think it will be easier.

“He changed my mind about this club and the project, so I am happy to work with him and to meet the other players at Crystal Palace. I hope it will be good this year.”

The 29-year-old endured a torrid time in his three seasons at the Emirates Stadium, where his form dropped dramatically after a decent start to life in England, where he had arrived with plenty of expectation after impressing in Ligue 1 with Bordeaux.

Many rumours suggested he would be returning to France this season, but he is confident he can still have something to offer in the Premier League, and believes his experience could be useful at Crystal Palace.

He added: “I hope I will bring my experience from the Premier League and I will do my best and talk to the players to be happy this season.”

Chamakh scored just two goals for Arsenal last season, and also failed to find the back of the net in a loan spell with West Ham.
