Out-of-favour Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is reportedly a January target for Premier League duo Everton and Aston Villa, according to the Daily Mail.

The veteran centre-back has been a key player for the club since joining from Everton in 2009, though he fell out of favour with former manager Roberto Mancini last season and does not seem to be in the plans of new boss Manuel Pellegrini either.

This is in spite of the fact that the 31-year-old has played admirably in the absence of several other key players missing through injury at the back for City, as the club look reluctant to offer him a new contract.

This could see his old side Everton re-sign him when the transfer window re-opens in January, though Aston Villa are also believed to be keen on signing the former Wolves man.

The England international often played at left-back for the Toffees, and could prove useful for manager Roberto Martinez if another bid comes in from Manchester United for Leighton Baines.

Lescott initially cost City £22m when he first joined the club, and has gone on to score 8 goals for the team, helping them to the Premier League title in the 2011/12 season.
