European giants Arsenal and Juventus are set to go head to head in a battle to sign promising young Red Bull Salzburg defender Martin Hinteregger when the transfer window finally reopens once again for business at the turn of the year, according to reports on Inside Futbol.

The up-and-coming Austria international has been with Salzburg for the past three years now, after starting out his professional career with Red Bull Juniors, where the 21-year-old managed to find the back of the net on an impressive six occasions in just 13 league encounters.

And it was that eye-catching form in front of goal from a defensive position in his only season with Red Bull Juniors that saw Hinteregger move to the Austrian giants in 2010, where the versatile defender has continued to shine.

In fact, Hinteregger’s form since signing for Salzburg has even led to the player being called up to the Austria national team, although he has still to win his first senior cap though for his country, despite being a regular at Under-17, U19 and U21 levels though.

As a result, it is understood that both the Gunners and the ‘Old Lady of Italian Football’ have  recently been keeping close tabs on Hinteregger, who can operate at either left back or as a centre back, with a view to possibly making a move for the Austrian in January.
