Portuguese champions FC Porto are preparing to offer highly rated centre-back Eliaquim Mangala a massive pay rise in order to keep the in-demand Frenchman at the Dragao and out of the clutches of Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, according to reports in the Metro.

The 22-year-old has been mentioned in the same breath as the Uefa Europa League holders and the Premier League champions for some time now after Mangala turned in a string of impressive displays at the back for his club of late.
So much so, that is has been expected that both top-flight outfits would make a move for the France international at the turn of the year as each side looks to strengthen at the back in 2014.
However, now it appears as though his club are set to responsd to those possible twin threats by offering their star man a huge salary hike in an effort to keep Mangala at Porto going forward.
The central defender has a contract with the Portuguese side that runs until June 30 2016 and a buyout clause in that deal worth a reported £40m.
