The Scotland Under-21 international has been making the headlines of late after breaking through into the Scottish Premier League side’s first team within the last few seasons.

However, it was not last April that Gauld actually made his first start for United in a league encounter against St Johnstone, with the 17-year-old celebrating the moment by finding the back of the net in a 1-1 draw.

And only just last month, the Scot signed a contract extension with his club that now keeps the attacking starlet at United until May 2016, although that has still not prevented a number of big-name clubs from expressing an interest in the player of late.

Apart from the north Londoners, who are understood to be preparing a big-money offer for Gauld when the winter transfer window opens again for business in the new year, both Premier League champions Manchester United and La Liga giants Real Madrid have recently sent scouts to Scotland to watch the prodigy in action first hand.

But the Scottish Football Association performance director Mark Wotte believes that it would be “ridiculous” for Gaul to move to the Emirates in January, saying:  “I would prefer him to stay in Scotland, play his games here, before getting a recognised move to an English club.

“I’ve seen some of the clubs he’s been linked with – it’s ridiculous.

“He doesn’t have to leave Scotland to develop. That’s the most important statement I want to make. He doesn’t have to move.”
