SPL champions Celtic are set to join Liverpool in the race to sign in form and in demand Burnley striker Danny Ings as Neil Lennon hopes to ‘buy British’ during the January transfer window, the Daily Mirror reports.

Lennon has sent his assistant Garry Parker to watch the England under-21 international in action over the weekend as he looks to use some of the cash attained from the sale of Gary Hooper to Norwich City over the summer.

The Celtic gaffer has already been warned off making a bid for Huddersfield Town forward James Vaughan after having him watched twice recently, and has switched his attention towards Ings despite being told he will cost considerably more that the former Everton striker.

But the Bhoys are still keen on landing him as they see him as a potential first team regular with a along future ahead of him and intend to use him in both the Scottish Premier League as well as the Champions League.

Burnley are currently chasing promotion from the Championship and will require a huge fee to consider letting him go having lost Charlie Austin at the end of last season to QPR, but Celtic have the funds necessary and will wait until the window opens before making the first tentative move.
