The West London side are to offer the San Siro side £14m for the versatile Colombian and Jose Mourinho will look to welcome in the 27 year old to strengthen his midfield.
Mourinho is looking to secure major silverware in the first season of his second spell at Stamford Bridge and believes he needs further central midfield option, not least as Frank Lampard is currently sidelined with a thigh injury and the likes of John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien are perhaps not seen by the Blues boss as the ideal men for the job.
Guarin can play in a central midfield role or on either wing and is currently in talks with Chelsea over a proposed move.
Mourinho has seen his side mount a Premier League title push with six wins in their last eight fixtures keeping Chelsea just two points off top of the table Arsenal.
The fact that Guarin would be available for Champions League action may well be a further motivating factor in Chelsea’s push to sign the Inter Milan star.
The former FC Porto man guided the Estadio Dragao side to three Primeira Liga titles and a Europa League triumph which led to a high profile move to San Siro.
