The north Londoner’s recently appointed new full-time head coach Tim Sherwood met with technical director Franco Baldini at the club’s training ground on Friday to discuss just which squad players were now deemed surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane for the second half of this season as Spurs embark on a major overhaul of the first team.

And one of those whose future is said to have come under discussion is that of Belgium international Chadli, despite the fact that the winger has only been in north London now since last July when he originally signed for Spurs on a five-year deal from Eredivisie outfit FC Twente in a deal worth £7m.

However, in the first half of his debut campaign in the capital, Chadli has largely found himself warming the substitutes’ bench for his new team, with the 24-year-old having featured in a total of 22 matches to date in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting in five others.
