Chelsea are set to make a stunning bid for Man City striker Sergio Aguero according to Football Direct News.

The 25 year old Argentine is reportedly Jose Mourinho’s number one transfer target and the Blues boss is ready to make a British transfer record bid for the Etihad Stadium star.

Given that money is no object for Man City one imagines that any offer for Aguero’s services would be flatly refused, not least as the former Atletico Madrid man has only recently signed a long term contract with the club.

Aguero’s current deal runs until 2017 but is also being pursued by Barcelona, who could perhaps be more likely suitors.

Mourinho had targeted Man United forward Wayne Rooney but the England man has recently signed a lucrative new contract with the Old Trafford side so is another unlikely Stamford Bridge addition.

Chelsea are in desperate need of a prolific forward who could lead their attack more effectively than the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba.

Aguero is into his third season at Man City and has amassed a healthy total of 73 goals in 113 appearances for the club, including most famously the injury time winner against QPR that clinched the club’s maiden Premier League title back in 2011/12.
