To fix a squad in dire need of pace and dynamism, Arsene Wenger will turn to Bundesliga ace Jefferson Farfan, who currently plies his trade at Schalke.

CaughtOffside understands that the Peruvian winger is a prime Gunners target now, following a succession of anti-climatic, stale performances.

In recent months, the Gunners limped out of the Champions League, were battered by Chelsea, outfought by Stoke and embarrassed by Everton, with the squad unable to cope without the injured quartet of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil.

As a result, the likes of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski and Tomas Rosicky have been deployed in wide positions, and their lack of pace has been painfully obvious. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain regularly starting in central midfield now, the Gunners have lacked the speed in wide areas to counter attack, which has then stifled the creativity of the central midfielders looking to send wide men to the byline.

Farfan is 29-years-old, but is still exceptionally quick. His dribbling and his pace are huge assets, and he prefers to stay wide and take on his fullback rather than drifting infield. Farfan can play wide on the right or wide on the left, so could cover for Theo Walcott while the Englishman is out, or play on the opposite flank once he returns. This term, he’s scored eight and assisted five in the Bundesliga so far.

Interestingly then, Arsenal could end up signing Farfan instead of his Schalke teammate Julian Draxler, who has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates ever since January.
