The 20 year old Hamburg man is considered the ‘New Mesut Ozil’ and has been linked with a move away from the Imtech Arena with Mirko Slomka’s side sitting just one point off the relegation zone.
Despite his side’s struggles Calhanoglu has been in fine form, netting 10 goals in 24 domestic league fixtures from his attacking midfield spot.
Atletico Madrid are also keen on Calhanoglu and the presence of fellow Turkish international Arda Turan could well sway his decision making process.
Chelsea are ready to offer £13m for Calhanoglu and such a deal may be all the more likely to succeed if the club fail to avoid the drop to Germany’s second tier.
Jose Mourinho will no doubt be offered a massive transfer war-chest by owner Roman Abramovich this summer as the returning Blues boss looks to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from interim manager Rafa Benitez last summer.
