Serie A side AS Roma are looking to lure Brazilian Paulinho away from White Hart Lane this summer with the Italian club readying a bid for the Tottenham midfielder according to Football Direct News.

The 25 year old started the season well but hasn’t performed all that well since Tim Sherwood replaced Andre Villas-Boas as Spurs boss and the fact that his side are unlikely to secure a Champions League berth may lead the former Corinthians star to consider his options.

Stadio Olimpico boss Rudi Garcia wants to strengthen his midfield and has earmarked a move for Paulinho and a move to the Italian capital could prove tempting for the Tottenham schemer.

The box to box performer is sure to star in this summer’s World Cup finals and Garcia wants to secure a deal before they get underway, so as to avoid a potential bidding war.

Tottenham paid a then club record fee of £17m, a record that was then twice broken when chairman Daniel Levy invested huge sums in strike pair Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela, and as such it would take a big offer to land Paulinho at the end of the current campaign.
