The former England international’s current contract with the Blues runs out at the end of June and as yet, there has still been no news on a new deal for Terry at the club who he has played for his entire career.

However, ahead of the west Londoners’ crucial second-leg encounter with Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Champions League semi-finals at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, Terry has confirmed that the two parties are still locked together in negotiations, but that he hopes the matter will be resolved shortly so that he can extend his 16-year career with the Blues.

“Clearly, I want to stay for the rest of my footballing days,” said Terry.

“At the minute we’re in talks and it’s ongoing. I’m hoping it gets done. It’s down to the club. They know I want to stay.”

Terry, 33, has so far managed to feature in a total of 45 matches in this campaign, 33 of which have come in the Premier League, during which time the central defender has found the back of the net on two occasions.
