The Frenchman has just over 12 months to run on his current deal, but has yet to pen an extension with the Sky Blues, and Chelsea will look to capitalise on his stalling commitment by offering City a deal to land his signature in the summer.
After a slow start to his City career, the 26-year-old has been in electric form for the club this time around and manager Manuel Pellegrini is said to be desperate to keep a hold of him for the foreseeable future, but his representatives are yet to conclude a suitable agreement.
That means that City are vulnerable to losing him this summer for a cut price fee, and the fact that he would be leaving for a fellow Premier League title rival would only be rubbing salt into the wound.
Sources close to the club claim he will only consider penning a new deal at the Etihad if he is given a significant pay bump that would bring him closer to what the likes of Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany all earn.
