Bayern Munich’s brilliant attacker Thomas Muller has spoken of his extremely close relationship with new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, reports the Express.

The comments have fuelled rumours that United’s new Dutch boss could make the 24-year-old German one of his first Old Trafford signings.

“It’s no secret that Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes a little beyond the normal relationship between coaches and players,” Muller told German publication Bild.

The attacker, who can play anywhere in an advanced midfield position or as a lone striker, has emerged as a top target for van Gaal after the former Bayern boss was appointed in charge of United on Monday.

van Gaal previously managed Muller during his time at Bayern – and helped him develop his unbelievable talent. Last term in Germany, Muller bagged 26 in all competitions, and after notching 23 the previous season – he’s established himself as one of the best in the world.

Unfortunately for United though, Muller has claimed he is happy at Bayern under Pep Guardiola, and has no plans to leave the club.

“I have a contract with Bayern Munich until summer 2017,” he said.

“I am really enjoying playing for Bayern.

“There really is nothing better than this.”

If United cannot tempt Bayern into selling Muller, they could ask for his teammate Arjen Robben instead. Louis van Gaal manages Robben for the national side, and is known to rate him extremely highly.
