Incoming Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal, who clearly knows the 22 year old midfielder well, sees the Feyenoord man as an ideal addition to provide some much needed creativity to his Man United midfield.

The pint sized playmaker has been dubbed the ‘Dutch Xavi’ by some and has certainly outgrown his Rotterdam side whom he has represented since the age of nine.

Clasie has made 112 appearances in three seasons in the Feyenoord first team set-up and is now the club’s captain and is part of van Gaal’s 2014 World Cup finals squad.

There is a very real need to freshen up the Man United midfield with the likes of Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Darren Fletcher, Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverley all putting in poor campaigns last season.

Van Gaal is set to be handed a massive £200m transfer war-chest to invest in his Man United squad.
