Arsenal In Talks With Brazilian Club Over Move For Young Ball Playing Defender

Gremio centre-back wanted by Wenger.

Arsenal have held talks with Brazilian side Gremio over a potential move for defender Bressan, according to The Metro.

Bressan is held in high esteem in his home country and is rated as one of the best centre-backs in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A.

The 21-year-old is on the radar of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is apparently keen to bring the player to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

It is reported that Arsenal officials have held initial talks with Gremio’s hierachy and that the Gunners now plan to send top negotiator Dick Law to Brazil to thrash out a deal.

Bressan is a typically Brazilian centre-back in that he is very comfortable in possession.

He began his career at Juventude, before joining Gremio in 2013.

Bressan has been linked with interest from Santos recently, but a move to Europe – and quite possibly Arsenal – now seems likely.

The Metro claim that, if Wenger is successful in his pursuit of Bressan, the youngster will play a first-team role in North London next season.

Arsenal have a history of signing Brazilian players. The likes of Julio Baptista, Denilson, Sylvinho, Gilberto Silva and Edu have all represented the Gunners this century.
