France are on the verge of qualification for the last 16 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup after an emphatic victory over Switzerland in Salvador.
The French were already 3-0 up by the break thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud, Blaise Matuidi and Mathieu Valbuena, whilst Karim Benzema also missed a penalty and Yohan Cabaye hit the bar.
The Swiss were no more solid after the interval, conceding twice more when Benzema slipped the ball through the legs of Diego Benaglio and Moussa Sissoko arrowed a shot into the far corner.
Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side did make things respectable when Blerim Dzemaili’s free-kick and a fine effort from Granit Xhaka found their way in, but it was Didier Deschamps’ side who picked up a vital three points.
