The excellent Sport Witness expands on this claim, detailing just how this source arrived at this figure, with the Uruguayan expected to earn as much as €12m (£9.5m) a year after tax with a five year contract needed to attract the 27 year old.

These wage demands and the world record fee it would take to land the Anfield star amounts to a sum deemed as an ‘impossible dream’ the Catalan giants are unwilling, or simply unable, to fund which would appear to leave Liverpool fearful of just Real Madrid’s advances for their prized asset.

The Daily Mail claim that Liverpool would ‘reluctantly’ consider a £100m offer for Suarez though clearly the Merseyside club, and their manager Brendan Rodgers, would clearly prefer that no side is ready to offer such a sum so that they can continue to reap the rewards of employing arguably the most in-form player in world football.

Suarez scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League appearances in 2013/14, finishing some way clear as the Engish top tier’s leading goal-scorer.

As well finding the back of the net the unstoppable forward provided a whole lot more to the Liverpool attack, indeed only Steven Gerrard provided more Premier League assists than the talented marksman.

His club form has seamlessly translated to national team success with Suarez recovering from knee surgery to score a brace as Uruguay defeated England in their key World Cup encounter.
