Newcastle United could be set for a new arrival as a part of the deal that is set to take right back Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, according to the Chronicle, who suggest that Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell could join the Magpies on loan as part of the package.

Campbell is set to return to Arsenal with his reputation massively enhanced by a fine World Cup campaign with Los Ticos, where he led the line with maturity and bagged a fine goal in his team’s shock opening victory against Uruguay.

The 22 year-old has spent time on loan at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos in recent years as the Gunners wait for a work permit to be granted to the striker – but now that is no longer an issue they look set to be willing to allow Campbell one more year to develop before bringing him back to the Emirates Stadium.

The arrival of a striker at Newcastle would also be welcome, with last season’s top scorer Loic Remy and fellow forward Luuk de Jong having returned to their parent clubs, Queens Park Rangers and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively.

Right back Debuchy is expected to join the Gunners in the coming days, arriving as the replacement for Bacary Sagna after he joined Premier League rivals Manchester City on a free transfer.
