New White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino is set to make Swansea City left-back Ben Davies his first signing as Spurs boss and has sent sporting director Franco Baldini to the Italian capital in pursuit of the Serie A pair.

27 year old French born Moroccan international Benatia impressed greatly at the heart of the Stadio Olimpico defence last term, helping Rudi Garcia’s side secure a solid second place finish in Serie A with AS Roma conceding just 25 goals in 38 domestic league fixtures and the experienced defender could be the ideal man to strengthen Tottenham’s leaky defence.

Similarly 23 year old striker Destro could add quality to Tottenham’s attack with the Italian international looking to secure regular first team football with the former Siena and Genoa man securing just 14 Serie A starts last term though still managing to finish the campaign as the club’s leading goal-scorer with 13 goals.

Chairman Daniel Levy may insist that Pochettino trims Tottenham’s expansive squad before he makes significant moves in the summer transfer window.
