Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo was then fortunate to only receive a yellow card after appearing to punch defender Diego Godin in the second half.

Atletico went on to lift the trophy, after winning the match 1-0 thanks to a Mario Mandzukic goal in the second minute.
The La Liga champions won the tie 2-1 on aggregate, having drawn the first leg 1-1 at the Bernabeu earlier in the week.
