AC Milan are set to make a move for marginalised Chelsea striker Fernando Torres on a loan deal, report the Express, after the Serie A giants sold Mario Balotelli to Liverpool for a fee of £16 million.

Torres has become more and more peripheral at Stamford Bridge since his £50m move from Premier League rivals Liverpool, having failed to maintain his impressive goalscoring record from Anfield on his arrival in West London.

Manager Jose Mourinho appears to have largely forced Torres out of his thinking this season, with new striker Diego Costa and returning legend Didier Drogba preferred to the Spaniard in their opening Premier League victories over Burnley and Leicester City.

Indeed, an end to his unhappy spell at Chelsea would seem to be the best outcome for all parties, as long as Pippo Inzaghi’s Milan are able to put together an acceptable package to allow Chelsea to take Torres on loan.

With the Blues having been linked with a £20m move for striker Mattia Destro from AS Roma, the need for Torres appears to be diminishing even further, with it looking increasingly unlikely that the former Atletico Madrid man will still be a Blue come the 2nd of September.
