Newcastle United are set to sack boss Alan Pardew and have lined up a move to appoint Hull City manager Steve Bruce and former Magpies legend Alan Shearer as a managerial dream-team to replace him according to the Daily Mirror.

Geordie boss Bruce turned down the chance to manage Newcastle United back in 2001 but may be ready to take on the challenge now and is ready to offer TV pundit, and former goal machine, Shearer as his number two.

Though Bruce is of course a former Sunderland boss he may still prove a popular choice if owner Mike Ashley does indeed opt to turn to the former Man United defender to replace under-fire Pardew.

53 year old Bruce has been a huge success at the KC Stadium, winning promotion to the Premier League in his first season as Tigers boss and then leading Hull City to the FA Cup final last term.
