Tottenham Hotspur were denied all three points in their Europa League group game with Besiktas on Thursday after defender Vlad Chiriches gave away a late penalty at White Hart Lane.
Spurs led 1-0 thanks to an excellent Harry Kane goal, but Demba Ba rescued a 1-1 draw in the 89th minute after Chiriches, not for the first time in the game, made a dreadful error.
Having failed to clear the ball moments earlier, Chiriches used his hand to dispossess Mustafa Pektemek in the penalty area.
He wasn’t nearly subtle enough with his hands to fool the referee, who made the correct call, giving Ba the chance to score from 12 yards, which he did.
