Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was also one of Moyes’ top targets while still at Barcelona, but while the Spanish playmaker may be out of reach now, recent reports have linked both Bale and Ronaldo with sensational moves to United.

The Red Devils have been desperate to seal an emotional return to the club for Portuguese star Ronaldo, though he may prove too expensive as rumours have suggested the combined transfer fee and wages could cost United around £140m or more.

This has today seen stories that United will switch their focus to Ronaldo’s Bernabeu team-mate Bale instead, who has been on their radar before while still at Tottenham Hotspur.

Bale only joined Real last summer, but it is now thought that manager Carlo Ancelotti is struggling to fit the talented Welshman into his team, with so many other attacking midfield players such as summer signings James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos to choose from as well.
