Ronaldo told fellow winger to head to United to further his career.

Cristiano Ronaldo may not be on his way back to Manchester, but he’s doing his best to help them from abroad.

According to Angel Di Maria, United’s new number seven, Ronaldo was the driving force behind his decision to head to the Red Devils when it was clear he was no longer needed in Madrid.

“Before we knew I was coming to Manchester, he told me it’s a massive club, I would be very happy here and it would be good for me,” Di Maria told the club’s official website.

“At that time we didn’t know for sure that I was coming or not, so we didn’t go into great detail, but what he did say helped me greatly to make my decision.”

Di Maria is now wearing Ronaldo’s old shirt, and is living up to its previous owners’ reputations. The £60m signing has had a sensational start to his Old Trafford career, and will be hoping that he will be able to keep up his good form after the international break, when United play West Brom at the Hawthorns.
