The 24-year-old only arrived in the capital during the January window of 2013, but failed to get a real foothold in the side and was shipped out on loan to relegated Fulham for the second half of last season.

He left again on loan to return to the Bundesliga with Hamburg over the summer, but reports from Germany are now claiming that he has already signed on a permanent basis until 2018.

The initial deal saw him join the side on loan with an option to buy next summer. However, the club had spent their transfer budget by the time the deal was struck meaning Spurs will have to wait until next year before receiving their fee.

Holtby leaves White Heart Lane having made just 43 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
